Behind the Scenes of Pizza Ads

From Peta-Pixel.com:
Domino’s new ad movement is all about ditching the food embellishments and promising “natural” photos from now on — photos of pizzas made by employees and untouched by food artists during the photo shoot.

The "Opposite Marriage" of Miss California

From The Washington Post:
Former Miss California Carrie Prejean is now Mrs. Kyle Boller, after marrying the Oakland Raiders quarterback at a San Diego resort.

The 23-year-old bride made headlines last year after making controversial remarks during the Miss USA pageant that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Prejean eventually surrendered her crown after pageant officials accused her of missing events, an allegation she denied.

Cinema Paradiso

A NY Times piece about small towns across the Great Plains keeping their old movie houses open:
“...in a small town, the theater is like a neighborhood. It’s the see-and-be-seen, bring everyone and sit together kind of place.”

5th of July Melancholy

Since we seem to be continuing the celebration of July 4th today, here's Aimee Mann's take on the holiday. Favorite lyric: "what a waste of gunpowder and sky."

The Kinky Cowboy Way

A piece on Texas musician/politician Kinky Friedman from Bloomberg News:
Richard “Kinky” Friedman, the country singer and detective novelist who has twice run for Texas governor, says he’s through with politics.

“It’s finally dawned on me that it’s a far better thing to be a musician than it is to be a politician,” Friedman says, smoking an ever-present cigar at his ranch about an hour’s drive from San Antonio. “If you’ve ever been in a room with a bunch of musicians, they’re decent people. And you can’t say that about politicians.”
